About the Job:
At Platinum Trailers and All‑Equip, our welders work in a truly mixed environment — part production shop, part custom fabrication shop. You’ll be building repeat‑run trailer components one day and tackling one‑off prototypes or specialty projects the next. Because we work extensively with both aluminum and steel, we rely on welders who can switch between materials confidently and produce clean, structurally sound welds in each. Strong fitting ability is essential: our team doesn’t just “burn wire,” they read drawings, solve problems, and bring complex assemblies together with precision. If you enjoy a blend of production efficiency, hands‑on craftsmanship, and creative fabrication, you’ll fit right in here.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and fabrication sketches for both production builds and custom projects
- Fit, assemble, and weld aluminum and steel components with precision, ensuring proper alignment, tolerances, and structural integrity
- Perform production welding on repeat‑run trailer components while maintaining consistent quality and efficiency
- Support custom fabrication and prototyping by building one‑off parts, test assemblies, and new design concepts
- Collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams to solve fit‑up challenges and refine prototype designs
- Select appropriate welding processes (MIG/TIG) and parameters based on material type, thickness, and project requirements
- Use jigs, fixtures, and measuring tools to ensure accurate fit‑up and repeatability
- Operate fabrication equipment including saws, torches, grinders, hoists, and welding machines
- Inspect welds and assemblies to ensure they meet internal quality standards and customer specifications
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all safety procedures and PPE requirements
Requirements:
- Must currently reside in Canada
- 3–5+ years of welding and fitting experience in a fabrication, trailer, or heavy‑equipment environment
- Proficiency in both aluminum and steel welding (MIG required; TIG an asset)
- Strong fitting skills — able to read drawings, lay out parts, check tolerances, and build accurate assemblies
- Experience working in both production and custom fabrication settings
- Ability to build, modify, or work with jigs and fixtures to support repeatability and accuracy
- Comfortable with prototyping, one‑off builds, and solving fit‑up challenges
- Ability to use fabrication tools: saws, grinders, torches, hoists, measuring tools, etc.
- Solid understanding of weld quality standards, distortion control, and proper heat management
- Physically able to lift, bend, stand, and work in a shop environment
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work efficiently in a fast‑paced setting
- Commitment to safe work practices and proper PPE use
- Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving ability, and pride in workmanship
