Body & Paint Technician
2302 Rd 125, St. Marys, ON N4X 1C9, Canada
The Opportunity:
If you’re a body and paint technician looking for work that goes beyond the typical collision lineup, this shop offers something genuinely different. At All-Equip, you’ll handle damage repairs and full refurbishments on heavy trucks and fleet equipment, finish the bodywork on custom builds, and put the final coat on purpose-built trailers coming off our Platinum Trailers manufacturing line. It’s varied, skilled work in a shop that respects the trade and builds things worth being proud of.
Work Arrangement: Full-Time, Fully On-site — Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm base schedule, plus overtime as required. This is hands-on trade work; the schedule shifts with the shop’s needs.
Compensation:
This is an hourly position paying $22–$32/hr depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package including Extended Health Care. We believe in paying fairly for genuine expertise.
About Us:
All-Equip is a family-owned manufacturer with a genuine entrepreneurial spirit: if it moves, hauls, or solves a problem in the transportation sector, we’ll find a way to build it. Founded in 2011, we’ve grown into a recognized leader in both trailer manufacturing and heavy equipment repair and service — and it’s that repair experience that gives us a real edge. We’ve seen what fails in the field, what holds up under pressure, and what the competition consistently gets wrong. That knowledge is baked into everything we do.
The Role:
As our Body & Paint Technician, your work spans the full range of what a shop can throw at you. You’ll handle collision and damage repairs, full equipment refurbishments, and the bodywork on custom builds — vehicles being built or rebuilt for a specific purpose that don’t always follow a standard recipe. You’ll also be part of the finishing process on new trailer builds coming off our Platinum Trailers manufacturing line, which gives you a look at OEM production work that most paint shops simply don’t offer. That mix of repair, custom, and new-build finishing keeps the work interesting and your skills well-rounded.
In a typical week, you’ll move between fleet repairs, surface prep, and finish coats on new builds. The workload shifts with the shop’s production schedule — so no two weeks look exactly the same, and that’s by design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform collision and damage repairs on heavy trucks, trailers, and fleet equipment — panel work, dent repair, and structural straightening.
- Conduct surface preparation including sanding, masking, priming, and filling — bringing surfaces to a consistent, paint-ready standard.
- Apply primer and finish coats across a range of work — collision repairs, full refurbishments, custom builds, and new trailer production finishing.
- Match colours accurately and maintain a consistent, high-quality finish standard across every job.
- Work across a range of materials — steel, aluminum, fibreglass — adapting technique and product selection to the surface.
- Communicate clearly with the shop team on job status, parts and materials needs, and work sequencing.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace with proper ventilation and PPE — safety standards are non-negotiable.
- Support and mentor apprentices on the shop floor — sharing your knowledge, guiding their technique, and helping them grow into the trade the right way.
- Support the broader shop team with additional tasks as needed — this is a team-first environment.
What We Offer:
- Year-round, full-time work — Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm base schedule.
- Extended health care coverage.
- Bi-weekly direct deposit.
- Over time, as the work demands — this is a busy shop and no two weeks are identical.
Career Path:
All-Equip is a growing operation, and we promote from within wherever we can. As our business expands across both the service and manufacturing sides, there’s real opportunity to take on more — whether that’s leading production finishing on new builds, owning specialty paint projects, or growing into a senior trade role in a shop that isn’t done growing.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 310B (Automotive Painter) and/or 409A (Auto Body and Collision Damage Repairer) licence — or currently enrolled as a 3rd year apprentice (minimum) in either trade — preferred.
- Hands-on experience with surface preparation, colour matching, and spray equipment — consistent finish quality is essential.
- Comfortable working on heavy trucks, trailers, and large equipment — not just passenger vehicles.
- Strong attention to detail and a personal standard for clean, consistent work.
- Able to communicate clearly with team members and keep accurate job records.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation to and from work.
- Physically capable of working in a demanding shop environment.
- Dedicated, reliable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a close-knit shop team.
- Organized and able to manage multiple jobs in varying stages of completion without losing quality.
- Commitment to safe work practices and proper PPE use.
Education:
310B (Automotive Painter) or 409A (Auto Body and Collision Damage Repairer) licence preferred, or minimum 3rd year apprenticeship standing in either trade. Dual-ticket candidates are a strong asset.
